Near miss/Close Call for @frightnight
Dec. 28th, 2017 06:51 am[Jason has been following up on this lead for weeks, nothing should have gone wrong. It's not an overly complicated job and he's always one for making sure he has a backup plan, just in case. But these guys were tipped off. He didn't anticipate this much C4 and a few extra men on the job, someone having figured out that the Red Hood might show up.
Jason is fast, but this time they're faster, the building they're in exploding floor by floor while the getaway helicopter takes off on the rooftop . Jason shoots a grapple, swinging it around one of the legs of the helicopter, dragging it down almost dangerously close to the final explosion, flames burning his feet. It's not even seconds after nearly being taken out by fire, that he's getting shot at, bullets cracking his helmet. These guys and their high tech. This is why he wanted to take them down. He can only imagine what this kind of weaponry will do on the streets of Gotham.
He tries to climb up the grapple, his own gun drawn, but some lucky thug (or unlucky, Jason tells himself, because that fucker is going to get his head personally blown off when Jason finds him) shoots him in the arm and then he's falling into the icy water below.
If he survives this, he's going to find all of them and kill them, but the state he's in now, he knows it's pretty bad. There's water seeping into his helmet and blood seeping out of a gunshot wound to the arm and the water is so cold it's making it hard to move.
This is definitely not the way he wants to go out. Not again]

crashes in here finally
Date: 2018-01-02 11:52 pm (UTC)He'd caught the tip off by chance, a quick message on a frequency they'd intended to pass over. It was luck they hadn't.
His decision to stay hands off was gone, replaced by an urgency to get there before things got too bad. At best, he'd get there before things kicked off, at worst... He wasn't going to entertain that thought. But it was the latter that was seeming more and more likely as time ticked passed, the silence interrupted by the occasional message from Alfred to tell him no, they hadn't been able to reach Jason.
He wasn't far when the explosion went off, and force of it nearly flipped his cycle. There was a feeling of dread in his gut suddenly with the realization that there wasn't enough time to search every floor to be sure Jason wasn't there before the building collapsed on itself or the flames swallowed it. And just as he leaped from his bike in preparation to make the effort anyway, he saw it - a grappling line and an accompanying shadow.
A burst of gunshots.
Bruce swore he heard the sound of the line snapping, even among the chaos.
He was moving in an instant, deploying his own line to haul himself through the air in the direction he'd seen Jason fall. He had just enough time to sweep one hand across his utility belt, snatching a mask from it to press it over his face just before he broke the surface of the water. He pierced it smoothly, gliding downward a fair distance before one hand moved to his cowl, pressing at just the right spot to light up the dark water.
Bruce scanned the water quickly, feeling his heart pounding in his chest. A voice in the back of his head whispered harshly, not again, not again. Something caught one of the sensors of his cowl, identifying it as blood. He knew before the small text popped up who it belonged to. He swam towards it quickly, spotting Jason and the spreading scarlet cloud that seeped from his arm.
To Bruce, it felt like it took him years to get close enough to hook an arm around Jason's torso and drag him back to the surface. The instant the broke the surface, he was in touch with Alfred, calling in an airlift. As soon as he finished, his attention shifted smoothly- )
Talk to me, Jason.
this was so good apparently i needed a couple days lol
Date: 2018-01-05 12:44 am (UTC)But he's losing blood fast and by the time he pries his helmet off, he's gulping in too much water. It's worse than the explosion he first died in. That was fast. All of this feels far too slow.
He's kicking, trying to swim up to the surface, but he's too slow and then suddenly there's an arm around him, dragging him up. He doesn't know who it is, he can't tell just yet, but he's too tired to fight it, even if it's one of the thugs from the helicopter, pulling him up so they can make sure to finish him off. When they pop to the surface and he hears that voice, he almost wishes it was one of the thugs. But instead, it's Batman. How the hell did he even- he barely finishes the thought before he's coughing, sputtering and he realizes he might've blacked out there for a second as he tries to focus on that voice again.]
What... are you... doing here?
[He asks between gasps of breaths, as if that should be the biggest concern here]
